Jr. High

I cannot believe that it has been three years since i first wrote this draft of a post: I'm old, I've got a daughter who's going to the same Jr. High School that my wife and I met each other at. It was in our PE class while we were running, she saw my twin brother and I running together and exclaimed to her friend, "there's two of them?" To which her friend responded, "yes, those are the Baugh twins." not exactly a love at first sight story, but it's ours. When our daughter confides in me, after she clearly asks me, several times, "to please not tease me."about her boy problems, I try to understand her from my own insecure and awkward Jr. High days. I steal the fact that I never grew out of that "phase" from our Abbers'(AKA Trouble) 6th grade teacher who still checks up on her by asking me about her. The last time she came through the library and did this I told her, " that it's not fair that she(Abbers or Trouble) is thriving during her awkward phase of life."
My Co-librarian also has her son in Jr. High School. she made the statement that she wished she could teach her son, "that people are just as worried as themselves as much as he is worried about himself."

"Take 5"

This year in the library, I decided to try a different approach to starting storytime with every class that comes into the library. I wanted the students to learn to calm themselves dow and feel that the library is a safe place to come and find a welcomed quiteness. So I have them all "Take 5" after coming in: 5 deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth. At first I thought they wouldn't want to participate and evn make fun of the whole idea, but now they remind me, if I'm still caught putting books away from the previous class. I have found that most of us don't make the time to do something as simple as mindful breathing. It is changing me. A month after school started, I had a dr's appointment and my BP was the lowest since the accident. I attribute that to the fact that I get to "take 5" atleast 7 times a day.I am also calmer and able to deal with the everydayness of dealing with elwmentary schoolers every day.

Make-out, Munchie, Buckhead(?!) Monday

I needed to find some motivation to get out of bed on a Monday morning, so I came ou with "Make-out Monday" and thought that I'd ask my ex to see if she was up for it. What did I have to loose? My CHAMPION Kiddos vetoed that really quickly, so I made them come up with an alternative, which was "Munchie Monday." we now have a standing lunch or dinner date every Monday and it is the best. I love spoiling them weekly. They were a bit slow to come up with this CHAMPION Idea, so while they were still coming up with it, I started to wear a bucket on my head every Monday to help remind the students that come to library, "To change the world one bucked at a time in 2023." his goes along with my "comer el tarro(google this if you want to know what this means in English)"book that was recommended to me by my CHAMPION FAV Daughter, Abbers: 'Have You Filled A Bucket Today?' My "buckethead" Mondays lasted a few months, until I bought a custom bucket-hat with "Fill A Bucket Today" printed on it. That's replaced my actuall bucket. The kids love it and so do I. Take that Monday mornings.

Speech Therapy

I was able to start back at Neuroworx this summer. It feels like I came home, finally. PT(Physical Therapy) wanted to see me twice a week. How CHAMPION Lucky am I? I pushed that luck and go to OT(Occupational Therapy) and ST(Speech Therapy) both once a week as well. I love all of my therapists for, "Pushing (me) for more(Neurowox's theme.)." Tricia is my Speech Therapist and we have so much fun, while still getting work done too. She gave me a new diagnosis: Impaired Response Inhibition(IRI). I'm CHAMPION Excited to put a name on it and have a game plan to get at it too.

CHAMPION Idiot

when I mentioned to my mental health therapist, Dr. Jeff Robinson, that I was nervous as my ward's Sunday School President about leading the teacher's Counsel Meeting held once a quarter. He reashured me that I'd love it as well well as that I'll do a CHAMPION job by acting like an idiot. He laughed nd said that it'll come naturally to me. That's why he gets paid the big bucks.

"Appropriately Disinhibited"

I graduated from my Rehab(TBI related and not drug addiction) Dr. and so go to my General Practionar who happens to be my previous Home Teaching Companion: Clinton Sheffield. He's CGAMPION and gave me this diagnosis last tme that I met with him. I want to get it in writing and put it up in my room framed with his signature It is yet another thing that I've never heard of. Much like "neglect." Apropriately disinhibited means that I like to talk a lot but not about inapropriate things. To which my mother responded, "Curtis, you always liked big words and you better not be talking about inapropriate things." So, I'm anything but a QUIET librarian.

#Givethanks

I am grateful for 2020/2021: Saturday,November 21st: A prophet of God living today. this gives me CHAMPION peace in a world of comotion. Sunday, November 22nd: The opportunity to serve my GB and administer the sacrament to her in her home every Sunday.(This wouldn't have happend if there wasn't COVID-19. So There is a silver-lining for me) I told my twin Bro, Matt about how CHAMPION it is to hear her ask my "Pa" questions from her scripture study every week. He responded by asking me if I asked her to send her questions to me early in the week so that I'd have time to study them. I told him that he didn't get it, that I was there to sit and learn from their conversation and not be in the way. Monday, November 23rd: My CHAMPION Sisters because they let me be their kiddos' weird uncle. I went to my Maymers' house to meet my Cole-Cole after school and stayed until bedtime. She fed me and let me read books to her youngest, Kyle. He melted my heart when he'd go to get another book for me to read to him, he'd come back and tell me that he missed me. Tuesday, November 24: A job that I love and allows me to feel like, "I'm saving the world, one book at a time." I didn't love it as much yesterday, when I had to be in at 8:30 Am. My sticky-note-horse-blinder usually says, "If we can do Monday Mornings, we can do anything." I wasn't scheduled to be in until 11AM today and even got her a lttle after 10 and still had time to rife my recumbant bike for 2 miles.

Summer of Lagoon

my CHAMPION Wife(Well, ex now(sadness, don’t get me started)) decided to get our CHAMPION Kiddos season passes for the last few years and this year is the first time that I felt up to getting one for myself to be able to go with them. From racing them around on my portable scooter, ‘Golden Bubbles’  to stopping at Pace’s Dairy Anns for ‘Rainbows’ on the way home. Even the Corona Virus couldn’t keep us from enjoying our time together. In fact it even helped by keeping the crowds away. We had to get an appointment to be able to get in. Thanks to my amazing sisters getting on board, we even wore them all out by going so often. They don’t even realize how good they have it, but I didn’t either at their age. Anyone up for a ‘Lazy Summer Day?’ I cant believe that they’re asking me,’when are we going again so that we can go on ‘Canibal’ with you dad?’ Lucky me.

The most CHAMPION part of the whole experience and what made me decide to buy us all passes again as my Christmas present was the fact that our CHAMPION Kiddos took care of me: from helping me get onto rides to fighting over who got to sit next to me.

Resilience

This was my President Pa Baugh's topic for ward conference. He outlined 3 things we can do to develop resilience:
1. Remember that I am a BELOVED Child of God.
2. Remember that there's a plan for me.
3. Remember Jesus Christ.
He taught this right after President Taylor shared the new Young Men's theme:

I am a beloved son of God, and He has a work for me to do.

With all my heart, might, mind, and strength, I will love God, keep my covenants, and use His priesthood to serve others, beginning in my own home.

As I strive to serve, exercise faith, repent, and improve each day, I will qualify to receive temple blessings and the enduring joy of the gospel.

I will prepare to become a diligent missionary, loyal husband, and loving father by being a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

I will help prepare the world for the Savior’s return by inviting all to come unto Christ and receive the blessings of His Atonement.

It doesn't get more CHAMPION. My goal is to memorize it with my Maxwell.
